Specifically chosen for this role due to our reputation for having an understanding of the Capital regime within health-care, and given the brief to assist the Trust in securing the resolution of it’s large recurring deficit. We undertook detailed analysis of the Trust’s capital accounts, instigating a downwards revaluation of areas of the Capital estate and were able to reduce its capital charges by £4m-£6m per annum. We also proposed a longer-term property redevelopment plan which would necessitate closure of the existing site and move to new greenfield location.

We were again requested to assist the Department of Health on its' Payment by Results team. The role included: management of collection of Reference Costs and the Baselining process as part of the implementation of PbR for the Department, team management and design and implementation of the processes required to calculate transition arrangements.We were also required to give presentations at a series of workshops to update NHS staff and to teach them how the new tariff would be applied, and to oversee management of team members to ensure appropriate tasks were completed on time and within guidelines.  Towards the end of the project we undertook collation and analysis of feedback from these workshops.  Throughout the contract we provided  regular updates to the Branch Head on progress / issues / risks.


Having built up a strong reputation as experts in our field within the NHS, we were specifically requested to assist the research project into the application of Payment by Results in Mental Health Services. This role included: Working within a formal project structure using Prince 2 base delivery framework, project planning, design and management of analysis, production of a data collection tool to collect data from over 20 organisations, liaison with senior management within these organisations to assure and re-assure them throughout the project. We also presented seminars to organisations involved in the project., visited those organisations to assist with data collection and train staff in use of the data collection tool and produced detailed analysis of the data including research into various statistical techniques and methods. We were also involved in the production of recommendations to the Department of Health. and liaison with senior NHS management.
